Godalming Robotics is a team of students from Godalming College in Surrey. Godalming Robotics has produced two walking robots modelled on insects. They are both powered using Nitinol Muscle Wire®. The first robot was built with the assistance of the Surrey University Mechatronic Systems and Robotic Research Group in June 1995. The second, improved version was constructed with assistance from Ferrari Design and Development Ltd. in August 1995.
The project was started in February 1995 with the aim of achieving a Gold CREST Award. The project was assessed and the Gold Award was attained. The project continued after assessment and developed into a Platinum CREST Award project. Both of the Robots were exhibited in 1995 at Imperial College, London at the annual Gold and Platinum CREST award exhibition.
The project was assessed for the Platinum CREST Award in February 1996. Both robots were then exhibited at the 1996 CREST Awards 10th Anniversary exhibition in Birmingham where the team were presented with their Platinum CREST Awards.
